This just in from Iain Binning. Anyone interested should contact Iain on iainbinning@hotmail.com

I know this ridiculously late notice but we have had a very late call off due to a
business commitment from our trip which means that I have a space for a male cyclist on our
7am flight from Glasgow on the 22nd for one week returning on the 29th.

The cost of the week including bicycle flight and all transfers whilst staying at
the Puerto Azul Hotel, Puerto Pollenca, Mallorca (Half board and sharing a room,
hence the male requirement) will be 475, a saving of in excess of 200.

So if you, or someone you think would be interested then simply e-mail me and we
will set the wheels in motion. It will be a case of first come first served on this one.

February 2017

Sharon Campbell has kindly sent us this tribute to her dear departed mother.

Isabella Campbell M.B.E.

It is with great sadness that I have to announce the passing of my beloved mother, Isabella Campbell M.B.E. She was a wonderful 101 years young.

When mum started competing, not only was it a man’s world but she sometimes cycled to the race, competed and then cycled home! However, she often reminisced that these were “The good old days!” and that “the cycling world has changed – we had it good.”

Over her career mum competed in 10,25,50 & 100 mile and 12 hour races. Paving the way for women to carry her mantle; mum held various British and Scottish records including Best All-Rounder.

She was both president of the Glasgow Nightingale CC and an honorary member of the Scottish vets.

Mum was showered with medals over her lifetime but the two most precious were when she was awarded the M.B.E. by her Majesty the Queen for her contribution to British Cycling since 1939 and the beautiful silver pendant gifted to her by the Scottish Vets. Committee in honour of her 100th birthday. Both were worn with equal pride.

Not only was she competitive, she loved touring around the country on her bike. From Land’s End to John O’Groats Mum spent her days on the road and her nights in a hostel or a friendly farmer’s barn! She loved cycling in Florida and on Mallorca but Sundays at The Cloch and “drum-ups” up the Lochside were her true favourites.

Mum loved getting on her glad rags and attending the numerous annual dinner dances and prize giving’s and mixing with her old friends and being whisked around the dance floor.

Mum’s zest for life was legendary, she was as passionate about life as she was about cycling. To her; age was just a number and if you met her, you would walk away with a smile on your face and a feeling that anything was achievable. But most of all she was my mum, my best friend and my inspiration. I, like you I am sure, will miss her dreadfully.

January 2017
Sharon Campbell has confirmed that her mother, Isabel Campbell MBE, passed away recently and has asked that this be made know to the cycling world.

December 2016

If you enter CTT events using the CTT website's online entry page you can now add your VTTA number to your personal profile, so that it gets linked to your entry automatically. This from CTT Scotland's Facebook page:
It is requested that those competitors who are registered on the internet entry system and are members of the Veteran Time Trial Association, revisit their profiles, to include the appropriate information. You will be asked to tick a box to indicate you are a member of VTTA, include which group you are a member of and your membership number (if you don't know it, it is on the address label when you next receive your "Veteran" magazine, expected Xmas time, or from your Group Secretary)

November 2016

At the AGM it was voted that Alan Solway of Kennoway Road Club be awarded the Tom McGinness Meritorious Trophy, which is awarded to a Group member that has overcome illness or injury and returned to racing fitness.
It is with sadness that we report the passing of honorary life member David Mitchell of the Johnstone Wheelers who succumbed recently to dementia. David was from a cycling family, his two brothers each being in a different club while his parents rode their tandem most weekends, youth hostelling or on holidays.

Goerge Shanley has had to stop time-trialling due to a double hip replacement. We wish him a speedy recover and hope to see him back racing soon.

Awards Presentation
The Group's luncheon and awards presentation is to be held
at McQ’s, Tartan Arms, 43 Main Street, Bannockburn on the 15th January 2017 (time TBC but usually c. 11:00).
The listing of SVTTA trophy winners and other awards for 2016 is on the Reports & Results page, so do come along and see the worthy winners receive their accolades.
Contact George Skinner for tickets.

September 2016
While our website was uunmaintained during 2016 we sadly lost a great veteran cyclist and multiple SVTTA and VTTA champion, Derek 'Dick' Stewart. He will be sorely missed at races and at the presentations following them! His obituary was featured in the Scotsman newspaper.
